IPI sagt dazu beispielsweise: „As a consequence of global and U.S.-based
piracy of sound recordings, the U.S. economy loses $12.5 billion in total
output annually.” und “As a result of
sound recording piracy, the U.S. economy loses 71,060 jobs." (The True Cost of Sound RecordingPiracy to the U.S. Economy, von Stephen E. Siwek am 01.04.2012).
Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) ist ein Gesetzesentwurf, welcher im US-amerikanischen
Repräsentantenhaus von Lamar S. Smith (Republikanische Partei Texas) und einer
Gruppe von zwölf Unterstützern eingebracht wurde. Ein anderer Gesetzesentwurf
COICA (Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act) und ein
Reformentwurf des DOICA, PIPA (The
PROTECT IP Act) haben einen ähnlichen Inhalt wie SOPA (Wiki).
Der Zweck von SOPA ist:
“To promote prosperity, creativity, entrepreneurship, and innovation bycombatting the theft of U.S. property, and for other purposes.”(H.R.3261 – Stop Online Piracy Act, House Judiciary Committee, http://judiciary.house.gov/hearings/pdf/112%20HR%203261.pdf, am 01.04.2012).
SOPA würde der US-
Regierung das Eingreifen bei solchen
Copyright-Verletzungen ermöglichen:
„The bill, called SOPA, would allow the U.S. Department of Justice and copyright holders to seek court orders requiring online advertising networks, payment processors and other organizations to stop payments to websites and Web-based services accused of copyright infringement.”(Grant Gross, IDG News, The US Stop Online Piracy Act: A Primer, http://news.idg.no/cw/art.cfm?id=CCB62CD2-D758-FA7D-22B614D3B279680F, am 01.04.2012).
Aber welchen Einfluss
hat SOPA auf soziale Netzwerke? Was hat dies mit Zensur zu tun? Wer stimmt
diesem Gesetzesentwurf zu und wer sind die Gegner? Diese Themen werden im
nächsten Blogeintrag behandelt.
